Bob Durand
Bob Durand is President of Durand & Anastas Environmental Strategies, a company he co-founded in 2003 that specializes in providing integrated services for clients with projects that have environmental impacts . From 1999 to 2003, Bob served as Massachusetts Secretary of Environmental Affairs, with oversight of the Departments of Environmental Protection, Fisheries and Wildlife, Agriculture, and the state parks agencies, and approved extensive waterfront development plans in Boston Harbor, develop key portions of homeland security plans after September 11, 2001, and implemented build-out analyses for all 351 communities in Massachusetts under the Community Preservation Act. As Secretary, Bob was responsible for development policies and decisions under the Massachusetts Environmental Policy Act (MEPA), chaired the board of the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority (MWRA), and actively participated in the Environmental Council of the States. Prior to that time, he served eight years as State Senator, where he was Majority Whip and chaired the Committees on Natural Resources and Agriculture and the Committee on Energy. He also served six years as State Representative. He is the author of landmark environmental legislation, including the Rivers Act, the Community Preservation Act, and the Brownfields Act. He is currently on the Board of Directors of the Environmental Business Council and the Massachusetts Chapter of The Nature Conservancy.
Chuck Anastas
Chuck Anastas is co-founder and Managing Partner of Durand & Anastas Environmental Strategies, Inc., and oversees the company’s permitting and regulatory business. Chuck served from 1999 – 2003 as Chief of Staff at the Massachusetts Executive Office of Environmental Affairs, where he was responsible for oversight of the Secretary's initiatives and managing senior staff activities, including operating and capital budgets, municipal harbor planning, and the land protection program. He has a broad range of government experience in both the executive and legislative branches, including special assistant to the Lieutenant Governor. He is a veteran of local government having successfully worked with local stakeholders to implement community goals and assist in local government issues pertaining to zoning, education and the environment. Chuck also has eight years experience in real estate sales and consulting on commercial and 40B housing projects.
Tom Skinner
Tom Skinner joined Durand & Anastas Environmental Strategies, Inc., in September, 2004, and focuses on coastal projects, state permitting and licensing, and transportation issues. From 1999 – 2004, Tom served as Director of the Massachusetts Office of Coastal Zone Management and Assistant Secretary for Coastal and Marine Resources, and was responsible for managing the Governor’s Ocean Management Initiative, reorganizing the state’s wetlands restoration program, and streamlining waterfront development efforts. Tom's prior experience was in land conservation, transportation, and education. He has worked in the Maine Governor's office and the U.S. House of Representatives, has held management positions in state and federal environmental and economic development agencies, and was a senior planner at an international consulting firm, where he designed a strategic reorganization plan that was adopted by a European national railway.
Steve Mague
Steve Mague joined Durand & Anastas in January, 2008, and has an extensive background in waterfront planning and development, permitting, and multidisciplinary projects. From 1998-2007, he was the Waterfront Planning and Coastal Mapping Coordinator at the Massachusetts Office of Coastal Zone Management (CZM), serving as Project Manager for the Massachusetts Chapter 91 Historical and Jurisdictional Mapping Project, the Massachusetts Shoreline Change Project: 1800s to 1994, and the South Shore Coastal Hazards Characterization Atlas. He was the lead agency reviewer for Municipal Harbor Plans (MHPs) submitted by the City of Boston and served as expert witness for Chapter 91 jurisdictional determinations. Prior to working for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Steve spent over 20 years in the private sector with Schofield Brothers of New England, Inc., as a Senior Project Manager of multidisciplinary projects dealing with complex local, state, and federal environmental permitting. Steve is a Registered Sanitarian and has published several peer reviewed articles on historical shoreline mapping and Chapter 91 jurisdiction, including articles in Surveying and Land Information Systems, a Journal of the American Congress on Surveying and Mapping
Doug Pizzi
Doug Pizzi has more than 25 years of communications experience. After spending more than a dozen years as a daily newspaper reporter, Doug moved into media relations work. He then spent six years in state government managing communications and government relations for the Office of Child Care Services and communications for the Executive Office of Environmental affairs and its five line agencies.
In January of 2003, he formed Pizzi Communications Company based in Marlborough , MA . The company specializes in media relations and crisis communications. In addition to being a communications consultant to Durand & Anastas, Pizzi Communications represents clients from such diverse fields as politics, business, environmental advocacy and human services.
Cindy Cormier
Cindy Cormier joined Durand & Anastas Environmental Strategies in 2004. Prior to that, she was the Biodiversity Days program manager and event coordinator for Massachusetts’ Executive Office of Environmental Affairs (EOEA) following a 24 year career with Compaq and Digital Equipment Corporation, where she held management positions in operations, logistics, and customer service. She has an extensive private and public sector background in program and project management, educational development, data management, event planning and management, community outreach, and general administrative support. Cindy is a past member of the Zoning Board of Appeals in Hudson and recently consulted on the Massachusetts Association of Conservation Commission’s Wild Things: Biodiversity in your Backyard program as well as Conservation Commission Day which celebrated the 50th anniversary of Conservation Commissions in Massachusetts.
